1 Introduction

Welcome to Kindred Content ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Platform").

Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Platform.

2 Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Account registration: email address, username, display name, password
• Profile information: bio, avatar/profile photo, website URL
• Content you post: images, videos, audio files, captions, tags, and links
• Communications: messages you send to other users, support inquiries
• Payment information: processed securely by Stripe, we do not store card numbers
• Category interests selected during onboarding

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device information: device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
• Usage data: screens viewed, features used, time spent, interactions
• View events: posts viewed, videos watched, watch time (used for creator earnings)
• Weekly viewing totals: for free accounts, the seconds spent viewing posts each week, the time zone used to start your week, and the times of recent viewing check-ins from the app. Linked to your account (profiles you add share one total) and stored on our servers
• Screen time: daily usage minutes (stored locally on your device only)
• Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps

2.3 Information from Third Parties

• Stripe: subscription status, payment confirmation (not card details)
• Supabase: secure cloud database hosting for your account data

3 How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Provide, operate, and improve the Platform
• Process subscription payments through Stripe
• Calculate and distribute creator earnings based on watch time, impressions, and engagement
• Send you notifications about activity on your account (based on your preferences)
• Show parents in a family group their teens' viewing activity in the Parent Dashboard
• Enforce our Content Policy and Terms of Service
• Respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
• Comply with legal obligations
• Protect against fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity

4 Human-Only Content Policy

• All content you post must be original and created by you
• AI-generated content, repurposed content, and spam are prohibited
• We reserve the right to remove content that violates this policy
• Repeated violations may result in account termination

5 Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

5.1 Service Providers

• Supabase: database and authentication services
• Stripe: payment processing
• Resend: email delivery for notifications and creator broadcasts
• Expo/EAS: app distribution and updates

5.2 Other Users

• Your username, profile photo, bio, and public posts are visible to other users
• Your follower and following counts are publicly visible
• Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.

6 Data Retention

• Account data: kept while your account exists, and deleted immediately when you delete your account
• Posted content: kept until you delete it or your account
• Messages: kept until you delete your account
• View events (what was viewed, and for how long): deleted after 24 months. If you delete your account sooner, your views are kept until then without your identity, because creators’ earnings are calculated from them
• Weekly viewing totals: check-in times are deleted after a day, weekly totals eight weeks after the week ends, and all of it as soon as you delete your account
• Upgrade reminder emails: a record of which ones we sent you and when, deleted 12 months after the last one, and as soon as you delete your account
• Creator earnings and payout records: kept after an account is deleted, for tax and accounting
• Reports and moderation records: deleted 2 years after they were made, once closed; a report still being reviewed is kept until it is reviewed
• Media preserved as evidence from removed or reported posts: deleted after 1 year, unless we are legally required to keep it longer
• Screen time data: stored locally on your device only, never sent to our servers
• Account deletion: your account and content are deleted immediately when you confirm. Some records are kept afterwards for safety, legal and payment reasons — see Delete your account for exactly what, and for how long

7 Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Kindred Content is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@kindredcontent.app.

For users aged 13–17, we recommend parental supervision. Family groups, which are free, include parental transparency tools to help parents monitor their teens' usage.

In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we will promptly delete any information we discover has been collected from a child under 13.

8 Family Groups and Parental Controls

For family groups (free) and their parent members:

• Family accounts and parental controls are free. They apply to teen members of a family group, who must be 13 to 17 and join by accepting an invitation
• A parent in the group can see each teen's activity in the Parent Dashboard: today's viewing time, top categories and recently viewed posts
• A parent can turn on a weekly digest in the Parent Dashboard showing a teen's viewing over the past seven days: time watched, posts and creators watched, the most-watched creator and the most-viewed post. The digest is shown in the app; it is not emailed
• This activity comes from viewing records stored on our servers
• Child account data is processed under the parent's consent
• The 1-hour daily limit counter itself runs on the teen's device

9 Your Privacy Rights

9.1 All Users

• Access: request a copy of your personal data
• Correction: update or correct inaccurate information
• Deletion: request deletion of your account and associated data
• Portability: request your data in a portable format
• Opt-out: unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time

9.2 California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected and shared, the right to delete, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights.

9.3 European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. Our legal basis for processing is contract performance (providing the service) and legitimate interests.

10 Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Secure cloud infrastructure via Supabase with row-level security
• Password hashing: we never store plain-text passwords
• Regular security reviews

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11 Cookies and Tracking

Our mobile app does not use cookies. Our web platform uses essential cookies only for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

12 Third-Party Links

The Platform allows creators to add outbound links to their posts. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

13 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the app and sending an email notification. Your continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
